Instant Slow with Yang Chin | 與楊勤慢慢立可拍

今年年初富士軟片Fujifilm公司悄悄宣布停止生產 FP-100C ,全世界僅存的撕拉式的「即拍即印」底片,是該公司繼黑白撕拉片FP-100B (2012年停產)及FP-3000B(2014年停產)後對這種頗受攝影師喜愛的終結。說到「撕拉」,這個舉動也讓許多沒有停止拍攝所謂「立可拍」底片的攝影師沮喪、失望、甚至憤怒,好像撕裂了他們的心。 我也是。 FP-100C是彩色片。消息傳開後,在很多人搶購最後一批貨的同時,我沒有跟著買,一方面是我不是錢做的,但更重要的是我兩年前已經搶購了兩箱FP-3000B並慢慢在消耗掉。 Earlier this year Fujifilm made a backdoor announcement that the company would no longer produce FP-100C instant peel-apart film, the only remaining instant peel-apart film for use in Polaroid Land cameras and film backs on various medium and large format cameras. The news triggered a wave of nostalgia, anger, regret, disappointment and sorrow among many photographers, myself included, as well as a buying frenzy as people scrambled to snatch up as much of the beautiful film as they could afford. I personally didn’t join the fray this time, but as a veteran of the previous discontinuation of FP-3000B, a gorgeous high speed, high contrast black and white film that miraculously has very little grain, I have a freezer filled with it. In among the 30-plus boxes of my remaining stock of FP-3000B was one last box of another discontinued formula, the equally sumptuous FP-100B, a slow, grainless, high contrast black and white film with a very close look to 3000B. 親切,美麗的運動女孩,楊勤,找我拍寫真是明確表示喜歡黑白照片,而這也剛好是我非常喜歡的風格,特別是30-40年代美國好萊塢劇照的高反差,「硬光」表現。所以我決定盡量直接用黑白底片來拍她,又因為想使用4×5大型相機,我就想到冷凍庫裡剩下最後的一盒FP-100B。 An upcoming portrait session with the irresistible Yang Chin scheduled, which we agreed would feature mostly black and white film and some use of my Linhof Technika IV 4×5 format camera, I decided it would be an excellent time to finish my last box of FP-100B. Ten exposures and poof! 或許用45機拍拍立得底片有點令人以為「殺雞焉用牛刀」,但我不以為然,因為攝影最重要的不是過程而是成果,而Fujifilm 的及拍即印系列底片令我非常喜愛,百看不厭。有機會捕捉到楊勤甜美的笑容,親切風趣的幽默感,健美的肌肉線條和美麗的臉蛋絕對是使用手上最後一盒子FP-100B非常好的機緣。 Some may say it is overkill, or too much camera for film that was essentially used “back in the day” for proofing. But as a big fan of Fujifilm’s black and white pack films, I emphatically disagree. How could drawing out and capturing Yang Chin’s beauty, wit, and her sweet, easy smile ever be a waste...

珍珠的一天(上集)| A Day With Zhenzhu (Pt. 1)

珍珠是一位熱愛跑步的年輕單親媽媽。綽號「老爺」的她有個爽朗、陽光個性和燦爛笑容,加上可愛的外表,無論在賽場或社群媒體上都容易吸引眾人的目光。   我們拍照前特地針對她特有的活潑個性,幽默感,以及對運動的狂熱設定了拍照的方式和造型設計,在一早化完妝之後從中午前到台北幾個不同的地方拍到天黑,再到攝影棚內快速拍攝「運動休閒風」的系列照,以突顯她各種特質。 Zhenzhu is a runner and a single mother with an infectious smile, great sense of humor, and positive attitude. In conceiving our portrait session we wanted to capture some of her quirkiness, youthfulness, humor and beauty, while incorporating a hint of her athleticism and passion for running.   With styling and makeup completed first thing in the morning, this took us to several locations from mid-morning through early evening. Greta 綺綺

九認識綺綺已經好幾年了,並在數場比賽以及攝影棚內拍過她。我們剛好以前也是鄰居,又對運動和戶外活動有共同興趣。但是這次拍攝前在溝通的時候我們對拍攝的主題和調性很有默契,想拍攝有別於外面所塑造的「美少女」及「運動美女」風。這個面相容易在綺綺的Instagram以及Facebook粉絲專頁看到。 I’ve known Greta for many years and have photographed her many times, at sporting events and in the studio. We are also long-time neighbors and share a common interest in sports and triathlon, so when we began planning a shoot together I immediately wanted to do something new and different. We wanted a departure from the cute, sporty girl most people know her as through sporting events and her Instagram and Facebook fan pages.     拍攝前一陣子除了春節期間一段時間的好天氣外一直不穩定又多雨,因此我們排除了我提出的一些外拍構想直接決定到棚內拍攝,而我們共同決定拍攝風格朝向時尚感而非運動風。有了這個基調並委託了造型設計師,我很快對拍攝的風格萌發出一些打光及模特兒表現的構想。 The weather had been terrible since an unseasonably warm and dry spell during Chinese New Year, and Greta preferred a studio setting over some location ideas I pitched to her, so we exchanged a few ideas with more of a fashion vibe than fitness and sports. With this theme set, and hair and makeup trusted to an excellent stylist, I hashed out a few ideas for lighting and expressions in my mind.   棚拍的時候我總是先以模特兒的服裝、造型、特質、等因素來設定背景顏色,再以此背景設定燈光。而這一天我決定先用黑色背景來拍攝一系列的半身、全身、頭頸等照。 I always begin to approach studio sessions by considering what type of background to use, and today I wanted to start by shooting against a black background for half, quarter, and full body shots.     每次拍攝我都會盡量做一些新的嘗試。我拿了小鏡子給綺綺當道具,以達到臉上聚光的效果。 I always try to experiment a little each time, and before this session I thought of using a mirror. For this shot, light was bounced back from the mirror as a spotlight on Greta’s face.     暖身後更大的新嘗試就展開了。我告訴綺綺我用手電筒「打光」的想法。曝光時間30秒的這兩張完全沒有修飾,感覺是不是很不一樣? After that experimental warmup I told Greta I’d like to try lighting her with just a flashlight. These images, for which the shutter stayed open for 30 seconds, are straight out of the camera. I kinda dig the results, and am up for playing around more with light painting portraits in the future. 綺綺已經很快成為更全方位的模特兒,她能在短時間內表現出許多不同的感覺和表情。在拍攝閒聊的時候我們決定進行一種快速變換表情和姿勢的連環拍攝法,以每一兩秒按一次快門。...
